Salma Qarnain

Senior MBA Admissions Consultant
Academic Background

Stanford University, BS
Harvard Business School, MBA
Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory, DC

Work Experience

Born in Scotland and raised in the Midwest, Salma pursued her dual interest in science and entertainment at Stanford, becoming both an aerospace engineer and an actor/producer.

After her SM from MIT, she began her career in Washington, DC at Orbital Sciences designing and manufacturing satellites, while building her experience in theater.

After HBS, Salma served as the director of strategic planning for AOL’s $1B Member Services organization and then as the director of international business development. She left AOL to pursue her passion for the arts and joined Synetic Theater as its managing director and COO.

While at Synetic, Salma produced 20 shows, serving a total of over 35,000 patrons per year and earning 30 Helen Hayes Award nominations and nine awards (DC’s version of the Tonys).

Salma has also served as the interim president at Stratus.

Artistically, Salma has developed new work and engaged audiences with stories and themes you may not necessarily see in TV, film, or theater as a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association and the Screen Actors Guild. Salma also loves technology and is an avid Wired reader.

Throughout her career, Salma has focused on mentoring and people development. She is always learning (you can often find her in front of Rosetta Stone) and genuinely enjoys helping others reach their personal and professional goals.
